Tree Removal and Stump Grinding Project in Brighton
TLC Trees was called for a large tree removal in Brighton property after a mature Lemon Scented Gum failed at the root plate in a storm and fell across the backyard, lifting a shared fence. With extremely limited access and a garden and fish pond to protect, we used a 60 tonne crane to remove the tree in controlled sections and safely position our stump grinder. The hazard was cleared in one day, all debris was removed, and the site was left neat, tidy, and ready for fence repairs.

Scope of Work
Client Issue
A mature Lemon Scented Gum failed at the root plate in a storm and fell into the client's backyard, impacting the entire outdoor area. Access was extremely limited, and the client wanted the least possible impact on their garden and fish pond, including keeping the fish in place throughout the job. The uplifted rootball was also lifting a shared fence asset, creating an urgent safety risk and a boundary issue that needed to be resolved fast.
Work Performed
- Removed the fallen tree in controlled sections using a 60 tonne crane
- Rigged and lifted each piece clear of garden beds and directly over the fish pond without disturbing it
- Set up a street landing zone so timber could be processed and loaded safely away from the sensitive backyard
- Used the crane to lift our stump grinder into position once the tree was cleared
- Ground the stump below ground level to eliminate the hazard and prepare the area for fence repair
- Completed a thorough clean up, mulching and removing all material from site

Before & After

Challenges & Solutions
Challenge
How We Solved It
Extremely limited backyard access and a delicate fish pond positioned directly under the work zone.
- Used a 60 tonne crane and careful rigging to lift logs out in sections over the pond, avoiding any garden damage or disturbance to the fish.
Rootball uplift was lifting a shared fence and creating a secondary hazard
- After safely removing the fallen tree, we used the crane to place the stump grinder precisely, fully removing the stump and stabilising the area for fence repair.
Brighton street conditions required strict public and traffic control during crane operations.
- We implemented full traffic and pedestrian management, established exclusion zones, and coordinated directly with the council and ATC to complete a safe street closure for crane access.

Results & Outcomes
Site left spotless
All debris was mulched and removed from the site, then recycled at local properties. The backyard was left clean and tidy, ready for the next stage of repairs.
Turnaround time
- Completed in 1 day
Outcome
The storm hazard was fully removed, the shared fence pressure was relieved, and the backyard was cleared without damage to surrounding vegetation or property features. The garden and fish pond were protected throughout, giving the client peace of mind and a safe, usable outdoor space again.
Customer Feedback
